Hi all

Havnt seen BJ for a while....whats that guitar Richie Samboras
using??

I thought he was mainly a strat man....or am I hopelessly out of
date??

Also I see theyre using a second guitar player, although you have to
look really carefully. They dont like crediting other people do
they....only ever seen the bass player in background shots.
Do you think thats a deliberate policy?

If its the guitar Im thinking of, then its a custom job that his
tech (Chris Lumpy Hofschneider) designed. He uses all sorts of
things live, primarily Strats and Gibsons from what I remember, but
also Ovation, Zemaitis and Floyd Rose. He had a Kramer signature model
before Fender did theirs, iirc.

Im hoping that the guitarist at the back was there to either pad out
the sound (maybe JBJ didnt want to play guitar), as a guest or some
other musical reason ... and not because of any concerns over Sambora
after his MTV unplugged sozzled tomfoolery. Youre right about the
coverage, although most of the Jovi footage (almost wrote BJ footage
there!) that Ive seen tends to not focus on the hired guy on bass.
Having said that it seems unlikely that a director at an event like
Live Earth would really give a monkeys (or have time to give a
monkeys) about that kind of thing, so maybe he was just pointing at
whoever looked to be a focal point?

Strangely enough, flicking round the channels last night when some of
the crap was on LE (Rhianna!) I found a complete Bon Jovi gig on the
Biography Channel of all places - by far the best gig on TV last night I
thought!

In addition to his usual strats there was something that looked
suspiciously like a Gretsch Silver Jet, as well a a doubleneck acoustic
(!) on Dead or Alive.

He still uses a lot the strat amongst a lot of others, the one your talking
about is described here...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k4dDhzIov8&

I love the double neck taylor he has and remember the triple neck ovation he
used way back.

I think the 2nd guitarist appeared at the time he broke his arm and they
just kept him around - he features on This left feels right and seems to
be a part of the live band, Hugh McDonald the bass player isnt officially
part of the band but he is part of the recording and well as the live band.

plus I get the impression that Sambora might prefer to keep the 2nd
guitarist in the background - you knoe he might start demanding more solos
and to be louder like lots of the 2 guitar band Ive played in :-)

Cheers
