It all depends if your going to use it to drive an already crunchy amp
or if the amp is going to be totally clean and the pedal is the only
source of grit.
Out of those clips I liked the Maxon the best.
if you just want a rock sound the MXR Zakk Wylde has got more tone
that a Boss DS-1 although its more expensive but its a similar type
unit.

the AC + sounds particularly nice, for really heavy stuff the BB +
preamp may be good
Out of all the ones Ive tried the ones that stand out are the MXR
microamp, the Xotic AC booster and the MXR wylde.
But....there are hundreds of boost, overdrive, distortion, metal
pedals out there. you may want to check out the line 6 stomp modeller
or just go round and try as many as you can.
in the end it depends what you can afford. but if money is no object
some of the best are Xotic, Keeley and Fulltone
