Hi,

Im looking at changing my amp/fx setup and as I debate various options Id
be interested to know how everyone else manages sound changes...

Currently I use a rack with a JMP1, pod xt pro and a mesa power amp all
controlled via a midi pedal board.
or a fender twin and a Yamaha dg stomp.

I like to program a sound and then be able to recall it quickly - either of
my setups allows this, but if I switch to having an amp head and maybe a
multi-effects unit or some pedals, I might have a better tone but at the
expense of easy sound changes.

Are you happy tap dancing with pedals or do you simplify the setup to and
the minimum changes?

Cheers
John P.

I have a midi controlled amp, but there are various devices on the market
for controlling ordinary amps via midi, such as the CFX4 from Axess
electronics http://www.axess-electronics.com/products/cfx4.html , RJM Amp
Gizmo http://www.rjmmusic.com/ampgizmo.php or even the good ole Ground
Control system http://www.voodoolab.com/gcx.htm later of which can also
control pedal loops as well as amp channels. I would suggest that you join
the Huge Racks Forum (http://www.hugeracksinc.com/forum/portal.php - dont
google for it!!!) as they have lots of helpful people with all this kind of
kit.

FWIW: I have a 4 preset midi pedal for channel changes, and a g-major in the
fx loop of the amp for delay and reverb effects, then a smattering of pedals
infront of the amp which I occasionally tap dance on!

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the links - lots of interesting reading there...

I guess Im being fussing by wanting lots of flexibility, minimal tap
dancing, small(ish) rig and tons of tone.

I was toying with replacing the podxtpro with a Mesa Triaxis or Recto Pre
and a TC G Major, so if I can find a way to integrate the JMP1 would give me
all that I want.

It would be nice to go back to using a head if I could the flebility - some
of the 3 or 4 channels models out there will do it if I can sort the right
way to add effects... one the fancier midi board that can switch amp
channels and send midi to an fx unit might do it nicely.

The 3rd option is just to get something like a line6 X3 live and run that
straight into a poweramp.

Or a 4th option is to be more organised onstage and keep track of waht
pedals need to go on and off at the right times ;-)

Cheers
John

I think the key is to apply the K.I.S.S rule, I dont mean weird make up,
pyrotecnics and huge boots but Keep It Simple (Stupid)! My pedalboard can be
seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/baconsarnie/1412973199/ (actually
the order has changed somewhat! it now goes guitar - TU2 - Wah - RC
Booster - Andil Modded BD-2 Blues Driver - Andil R28 Modded MXR Phase 90 -
CH1 Super Chorus - Andil Modded MXR Blue Box - amp). This is a lot simpler
than my previous board (http://www.flickr.com/photos/baconsarnie/1412972649)
and gives me a lot of coverage but as always ymmv.
