Im about to embark on my first self-build and Ive just received the neck
from Warmoth. Its a lovely lump of maple (AAA birds-eye). So nice that Im
almost regretting it now as my finishing of the body has to be able to do
the neck justice. Oh well.

Ive uploaded some pics here:

I read Nick Browns Schectercaster thread with interest and for anyone whos
interested, I hope to compile a similar pictorial of my experiences.

Building a Tele from scratch is the most fun you can have with your clothes
on.............;

I cant wait but Im also filled with trepidation over the doing finish. I
guess it gets easier after the first one!

About Ł130 ($257). I guess its expensive but its a 50th birthday present
to myself ;o)

I finished the body with Liberon Finishing Oil - easy to apply - looks
great - lets the wood breathe but has a hard glaze finish.......whiffs a
bit, but in a nitro/retro way.

Ł130 for a Warmouth neck of that standard is pretty good
going...............;
I have a black Fender tele custom which sounds fantastic (especial in middle
setting) but neck is like a club.....was thinking of switching it for a
maple 9.25 with a more modern profile...........cheapest Fender Mex neck was
more than that.....;

An instrument created from, what is in effect, 2 lumps of wood, by our
very own Paul Creedy.

Steve,

Thanks for the reminder. Ive used the projectguitar site on and off whilst
deciding how to do this. Provided I manage to make a decent job of this
project, I aim to build a body from scratch next and then a neck. It may be
a long journey though!

Im also on that road, bought a do it yourself Tele kit which I havent
started on yet, but when finished Im planning to build my own from
scratch.

This is fun stuff but requires a lot of tools and a lot of time. My time
is usually fairly flexible but to get the tools Ill need some hard
cash:-)
