Looking for any general thoughts about acoustic guitars with integral
pickup. I have a Marshall acoustic amp. I play fingerstyle and flat
pick.

It will need to sound OK without being plugged in too. I want
something to play whilst I send my venerable Alvarez in for an
overhaul (it does not have a pickup and Ive not been happy with the
ones Ive just placed in the sound hole).

I want to spend Ł500 at the max. I played a few things at a local
guitar shop in Oxford. Taylor/Martin out of price range? I played an
Ibanez Exotic Wood which I thought would be more style than
substance, but actually wasnt so bad and more like Ł250.

Would just be grateful for any recommendations or feedback. Many
thanks in advance.

Peter

Make sure you try some Tanglewoods, Takamines and Yamahas (not
necessarily in that order). Youll get a lot out of Ł500 from one of these
manufacturers. Ibanez are electric guitar specialists, I would avoid them
for acoustics.

HTH,

Brian.

Yamaha APX900.

Slightly smaller body than normal. Very comfortable to play. Dual pickup
system. On-board tuner. Good pre-amp and EQ. Very pleasant sounding when
played acoustically, and also very good when played through an acoustic amp
like the Marshall or a PA. The street price should fall within your budget
with change for a padded gig bag.

Cute is the word that springs to my mind when I think about this guitar.

Ive been hankering after one of these for a while, but events keep
conspiring to keep it beyond reach. Car was written off last month so its
just about at vanishing point right now. :-(

Bang on, for want of a better expression. I was parked with the engine off,
on the phone, idly watching through the drivers door mirror as traffic
approached from behind. One lady was finding the view of her passenger more
compelling than the view to the front and drove into us.

One Saturday about 7 or 8 years ago I was actually tuned in when they were
doing the Lottery draw. I had the first three numbers drawn...... Its
amazing the spending plans that go through your mind even at that early
stage.

Unfortunately those first three numbers were the only ones in common with my
ticket, so it was back to spending plan A - two bags of fish and chips down
at the local chippy LOL

Our little syndicate at work was a bit more successful and won a few
thousand one week - shared between about 14 or 15 people. It wasnt a huge
win, but nevertheless better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick :-)

Said lady will be responsible for the damage to your car, replacement
etc..., time off work for whiplash, inconvenience etc... at least.
Negotiating with tight-fisted insurers who will always value your car at
less than market value for the first offer can be a real hassle though and
finding another one with full history and in similar nick for the money
theyve offered is never easy.

Good luck with getting a fair settlement and a new guitar - ahem, sorry, did
I say guitar? I meant car. Well it kind of rhymes.

Nick
