The tenth anniversary of the island of San Serriffe perhaps?

I rarely buy Guitarist these days. I think Ive read most of the articles in
previous issues. You can only write so much about Jimi, Stevie et al.

And therein lies the problem.

Taking, say, the last 10 years, whos come along and become a new
guitar hero?

Horrible term - but most of us have at least one personal hero.

Although I dont actually rate him too highly as a solo guitarist*,
theres no doubt that Slash, for example, fits that description. He
was/is iconic and I can understand perfectly why he epitomises
everything about the console game and why hed inspire teenagers all
over the world to want to be like him.

But hes the generation before the latest one, surely?

Although Im glad to see the guitar as popular as ever and plenty of
guitar bands making it, whos the new hero?

Buggered if I know............

Steve.

* As an ensemble player and entertainer - top notch - and Appetite
is one of my favourite albums of all time.

My vote would probably go to Matt Bellamy.

Steve.

Do you mean this months, the one that came 4 weeks ago but had an April
date, or do you mean the April issue (which will have May on it), which
will be delivered on Monday (should have come today - Grrr)?

Rant: Some mags that I buy (no, not *those*) seem to 6 weeks ahead. I get
the April issue in February. Which of course means they can stick an extra
Xmas or New Year issue in, which just reprints a load of old stuff. Oh, and
I notice that Guitar Techniques has started reusing old video clips now -
What with the lack of transcriptions and terrible typos I reckon its not
long for this world. And why dont they sub-title Total Guitar with
something like Suitable for 12-14 year olds. Older readers may have their
intelligence insulted. And lets lose all of the plugs for musicradar.
And dont print threads from that fantastic site, just print a link. Or
better still, dont print anything about it. And Slash. Overexposed or
what?

Thanks for listening ;-)

Oh, ISTR the didgital slide was one of the April Fools, but it was so long
ago that Ive forgotten anything else I might have spotted :-)

I get most of the decent computer magazine subscriptions paid for by my
employer and they are just the same, weeks in advance. Someone once wrote in
to one of them and complained about it and asked why they do it.

I seem to remember the reply was along the lines;

We do it because the other mags do it. Once one mag issues their April mag
in March all the others have to follow suit.

Its all about circulation apparently, your average magazine buying Joe
wanders into WH Smith in his lunch break to get a mag and most of them say
March on the cover but theres one with April on it. It seems hes not going
to spend his hard earned on old and outdated magazines, hes going to want
the latest issue so spends his beer vouchers on the April one. Also it seems
that the advertisers get arsey too, people buying things want the *latest*
prices so will go for the most recent magazine.

It all seems like bollocks to me, I buy magazines based on their content, if
I want to read it I buy it, it doesnt matter what the date on the front
says.

The worlds gone mad, the bloody council should do something about it!

Regards
Nick
