See http://tinyurl.com/392ofa - I have no connection with this sale
but it is a very rare thing nowadays.

This device was invented by Godley & Creme of 10cc but was not
commercially successful - one explanation I have heard is that Lol
Creme was the only person who ever figured out how to play it! Are
there any other well known players?

On Youtube there is one clip of Lol playing Gizmotron with 10cc on
Old Wild Men - Enjoy.

If it was the case that the inventor was the only one that figured out
how to play it then the design and/or implementation of the design was
flawed in a serious way. By the looks of the thing, Id say that was a
pretty safe bet. If the device worked well and worked intuitively and
satisfied a need, then there would be dozens of people doing innovative
things with it.

Perhaps it didnt catch on because also, around the same time or shortly
after, the non-mechanical version, the E-Bow, came out. E-Bow fits in
your pocket, does not need to be attached to your guitar, runs off a
single 9 volt battery, doesnt look like a kids toy and cant wear out.

from the auction:-
it does not work now. The plastic wheels harden over the years and
break off, there are only five as one is missing. The power supply is
included (but I have cut the cable and have used the mini jack for
something else). Ill include the cable and it can easily be made to
work again, but not a lot of point as the wheels are not attached.

And someones offered 94 pounds?

The E-Bow was on the market first, maybe up to a year before the
Gizmotron. Its not accurate to call it a non-mechanical version of the
Gizmotron. They work completely differently but equally impractically.

A guitar magazine reviewer of the E-Bow complained about the Ł60 price
tag and commented that he looking forward to the introduction of the
Gizmotron (which had long been announced but had never been released)
because he thought it would be cheaper (no chance!).

As a rare artefact of the era, it may well be worth more than that to
some. There is still a ready market, as another example, for Teisco,
Rosetti and similar guitars - more or less unplayable by todays
standards but not valued primarily for their utility as players
instruments.

I predict it will go way higher.

Its collectable, and seldom seen.

Perfect for eBay.
