Its very possible.
In about 1975 I got a band together that aimed to play sort of jazz
rock fusion. We had some sort of vague idea that wed do a sort of
Mahavishnu Orchestra type thing.
One snag - no violin player.
So, I bought a s/h fiddle, slapped a Barcus Berry pick up on it and
proceeded to play it through my rig, which at that time consisted of a
Marshall 100w valve top and two 4x12 cabs, a fuzz box, a wah and a
borrowed tape echo.
As I couldnt play fiddle to save my life, I was reduced to playing
what I pretentiously called ambient noises when I wasnt playing bad
modal guitar licks.
Suffice to say that the band got no work whatsoever and only existed
in rehearsal form.
I later gave the fiddle away to a mates daughter who wanted to learn
proper violin playing.
