Im looking for a flexible, general purpose MIDI pedal board to control
MIDI-enabled guitar effects units.

My primary multi-fx unit is a Pod XT Pro, and I would buy the Line 6
pedal board, but that appears to be tied solely to the Pod. I also use
an old Zoom 9030 in my practice rig and it would be nice to control this
with the same pedal board.

Looking at the MIDI spec of the two units, it appears that I can do
everything I want to by using the units MIDI interfaces, including
turning FX on and off, altering parameters, wah/volume pedal position
and tap tempo. Question is, which MIDI pedal board is sufficiently
configurable to allow me to send the required byte sequences (theres no
sysex involved as far as I can see, although some commands do require
some slighty obscure controller values - turning the delay effect on in
the Pod requires controller number 28 with a value in the range of
64-127, turning delay off requires a value of 0-63)?

Im looking for at least four footswitches and a wah/volume pedal
controller - two would be good. And, of course, loads of configurability
when it comes to what MIDI data each switch and pedal can output. Any
recommendations?

Ta.

as others have said, the Behringer FCB 1010 is a pretty flexible unit.
You can programe it to do just about anything. I happen to have one
which Ill happilly sell/barter if youre interested? Its been in
its box in a cupboard for about 3 years now and I no longer have any
midi gear to control with it. Im not looking for a lot of money,
would probably be more interested in a swap for some other gear.

cheers

Ed Zachary wot he said.

Expanded version: the FCB1010 is the knees of the bee, the dangly of the
dog. Strangely, I also have a prime and exceedingly purchasable example
gathering (high-quality: Surrey) dust. I think this tells us more about
$something else than about the quality of the FCB101010101.

Both Andrew and I own the same valve combo (Pignose G40V) and share a
predilection for 335ey thingies ;). This may or may not be relephant.
When MIDI and/or modellllling catches up with valves (the latter of
which will involve 32-bit ADCs and DACs, and *way* faster DSPs - couple
of orders of magnitude), Ill use my (or, indeed, your)
FCB1010101010101010101 again. Maybe.
