A big baby isnt a parlour guitar is it? I think they are chuffing
lovely anyway, the only Taylor Id really recommend. Great value, masses
of tone for the buck. No contest IMO.

Not according to the web - its described as a 15/16 dreadnought...

Just a matter of taste? Or do you have stronger arguments against the
other models?

Havent a clue about the Crafter, but Im dead chuffed with my Big
Baby - but unfortunately the factory-fitted Fishman piezo seems to
have given up the ghost :-(

Sure, it looks fairly plain (no binding, laser-engraved rosette) but
its a lovely guitar:

And a real bargain, too (I paid the equivalent of Ł250 back in 2001).

Taste, yes. I like basic, simple guitars. Like Lowdens and Telecasters.
Taylors are too shiny and pretty. And the cheaper ones IMO look a bit
tatty. And they lack mojo for me. But the Big Baby is just a gem. Looks
great like you could concuss a hippy with it, sounds staggeringly loud
and rich and full for its size. Wafer-thin finishes means itll mature
quickly too (and they do). Wonderful amplified with a Fishman Rare Earth
blend or Takamine TriAx in it.

Nice one Ross

I had a Crafter and was not that impressed. Got a Big Baby a year or
two ago (Ł199 second hand , barely used . Its not parlour though -
15/16 size , but cant see any real sacrifice in terms of tone. Very
nice. I have heard though that quality is a bit inconsistent - some
really great ones , but a few iffy examples.

I guess its another argument for playing before you buy.

Unsolicited plug to follow.....

Satisfied a bit of GAS yesterday and traded in an Ibanez 450 in part
exchange for a Faith Saturn ( its the dreadnought in their range ,
but they also do some nice parlour guitars) at Mr Barlows tasty
emporium in Hitchin. Machinehead did me a great deal and its a lovely
guitar. I gather there are some bargains to be had in the Faith range
at the moment.

Cheers

Gary

I have long been an admirer of the smaller Venus.
