So theyve just swtiched to this new thingy, news.virginmedia.com. I am
actualy using text.news.virginmedia.com

I was getting some doubled up messages when I switched (despite delting
the old subscriptions and starting again), but I have been unable to
access rmmga at all. The last message on there whcih I can see (or
rather cant as it wont load) is the one from Virgin saying the server
is closed, dated May 8th.

Anyone else got this problem?

Now Ive just switched to news.virginmedia.com (rather than the text
version) and the problem persists, but there some spam here on ukmg that
wasnt there before, including one offering free sperm.

Hi Jon,

I (and I think a lot of others on the group) use news.individual.net based
at a german uni. I get hardly any doublings, spam, etc.

I think it costs me about a tenner a year.
Cant remember the details exactly, but someone will be along shortly :-)

Ive now finally fixed it. I deleted the whole account rather than
deleting the descriptions. FOr some reason changing the account setting
and deleting the subscriptions does not work, even though the end result
settings look exactly the same.

Its fine now.

I understood from the message they posted that the text server was
remaining unchanged, but I didnt use that one. And I must confess I
havent been on rmmga (Ill have a look though).

I was however intensely pissed off when I put in the new server settings
and consequently had to download about 150,000 messages because theyd
not kept the same message IDs.

OK, looked at rmmga and subscribed; it wants me to download another
150,000 messages (Im not exaggerating!). Might be a while before I can
tell you the answer....

Just one question - did you download a new group list?

Im still using their news-text.blueyonder.co.uk one.

No problems yet, no message saying the servers closed.
