Hi Everyone,
as a frustrated lone player the only way I can see me improving my -
dont laugh - solo playing is to back myself. Theres only so much
you can do rythm-wise to fill in songs. I want to be able to play
rythm and then switch to solo with the rythm continuing and then
switch back to live rythm playing. Decent drum sequences would also
help and an easy way to sync everything. Ive seen a reference to the
Boss RC50. From a very brief look at the specs Im curious whether it
might be the thing for me. On the other hand, I dont want rocket
science or loads of extra complicating features. Could anyone give me
some idea if this is a sensible way forward or whether another piece
of less complicated gear would suit.

RC2 might be a better bet. Cut down version of the RC50 and a third the
cost.

When I posted this to this group & alt.guitar & alt.guitar.effects I got
little response,
still try again in your company.

I want (or think I want) a small unit to provide me with Drum / Bass rhythm
patterns & a few effects to plug my guitar into .
I use a old ZOOM general multi-effect unit which has adjustable Drum noises
but they all sound bang bang, tap, tap (no thud or boom) ..very
tiring.
There is also a record 5 secs loop feature which I can put a chord or 2
into to play with which is better but v. limited.
And I dont like the ZOOMs quality of effects anyway.

I wondered about putting a portable CD player with Accompaniment CD with
some sort of headphone amp for the Guitar.
But Id like something where I can control a variety of basic backing
sounds.
I tried setups with the Computer but that never seems to work satisfatory
for many reasons.

@@@ Ive had a couple of suggestions from else where quoted below:

... one of the Boss loopers the big one (RC-50 I think) it
has quite a lot of good drum sounds in it plus you get to layer guitarparts
over it. As for fx well I dunno of a box that does both. It may be simpler
buying a cheap drum machine and keep using your zoom for the fx.....

I have the smaller RC-2 and it is top fun for exactly that sort of
thing.

around..the most recent PX5 has few reviews

& not very good ones...like maybe its just an elaborated PX4 with USB .

I have a Boss RC-50. My mate has one too. Hes done a lot more with his
than I have with mine to be fair. Playing in a rock band as I was when I
bought it, we needed an easy way of interjecting sounds like police sirens,
thunder etc... into songs we were covering, and by pre-recording these into
the RC-50 it was simple to just step on a pedal at the right time, so my
unit has really done more of that type of thing, which is not necessarily
what it was designed to do. However, the RC-50 is very good for solo
performers to simply lay down layers of backing parts in real time and then
to play/sing over the top. The results can be very effective and
impressive. There is of course a bit of a learning curve in getting to
grips with the RC-50. On the down-side, synchronising with external MIDI
units like drum machines can be problematic with the RC-50, and as I
understand it Boss dont really appear to be very interested in resolving
those issues. Pity.

I got mine on-line from Brixton Music Exchange, which at the time was
selling the RC-50 new for a lot less than other on-line stores.

which I would have used for future projects but probably overkill unless you
need to use lots of loops and fx.
