Is it RIP?
Switched on the V amp 2 today to find that although the lights all came on
the tuner didnt work and no sound was obtainable. It is definitely not a
problem with the guitar or the lead to the V amp or the jack socket in the V
amp.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I could be all wrong, of course... but didnt someone in the last year
complained here about some problems with his V-Amp, and it all turned out to
be an internal battery needing replacement? (I dont even know if it has
one, but this was familiar... I wonder).

The internal battery, nominally 3V is reading 3.3V, so I really dont think
thats the problem.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Ive had with the V-amp I/O sockets but it didnt go completely dead, just
intermittently quiet, or loss of one channel. Could be worth checking for
dry joints or a short at the input socket. Can you get any hiss from the
outputs if you select high gain model with high level settings (turn the
noise gate off)? No tuner suggest the input isnt working. IIRC it displays
a note and the tuner leds are only lit whilst the note sounds. On the tuner
mode the sound sound volume can be off (default) or turned on (but no FX at
the same time).

Theres an interesting line in the Vamp manual that says something like
dont plug the PSU into the mains before you plug it into the Vamp. I did
once and got exactly the effect that you describe. It recovered completely
when I unplugged it and did what I was told.

I have always been fastidious about ensuring the connector to the V amp is
in before plugging into the mains. Its very interesting that it gave the
same symptom when you did the reverse though.
I am still waiting for a response from Behringer to my e-mail asking them
for advice. Ill let you know whether I get a reply and if so what they say.

I reassembled the V amp 2 this evening to find it worked again!
I havent a clue why, I did nothing but gawp despairingly at the board
inside- all surface mounted and impossible to do anything to with an
ordinary soldering iron, even if I knew where to start. Its starting again
is just as mysterious as it stopping working in the first place.
Glad I havent got a Variax, anyway - Im sure the electronics are much the
same sort of thing inside that. If it goes wrong youve got big problems!
