I am going to get some lights for the band (we were in the dark a lot last
Friday night).

I have no idea at all what I need to get.

I have a catalogue from BK Electronics, and have spotted some PAR36, PAR16
cans etc, I have no idea what the PAR bit is, and also what I use to control
the cans (I assume a DMX controller, but again, I have no idea what DMX
stands for).

Can anyone give any advice so I can get something useful?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Tony.

PAR lanterns take saled beam units - the PAR rating for a bulb is its
diameter in 8ths of an inch.

For rock lighting you want PAR56s - the 36s are cute but, apparently,
way too easy to break.

DMX is the modern lighting control standard - its sort of MIDI for
lights :) You will (as well as a controller) need a dimmer pack or two
to drive the lights: you can get away with a non-DMX desk and dimmer
for most band purposes. The Pulsar Rock Desk (if you can find one s/h),
doesnt suck.

Thanks for the reply, it is much appreciated.

Would you mind having a quick look at the following links and let me know if
I am on the right track?

Lamp (Ł14.09 or Ł18.24)
http://www.skytronic.com/uk/prod/search.php?s=151.681
or
http://www.skytronic.com/uk/prod/search.php?s=151.680

Stand (Ł83.36)
http://www.skytronic.com/uk/prod/search.php?s=180.603

Bulb (Ł15.04)
http://www.skytronic.com/uk/prod/search.php?s=159.452

Controller (Ł69.84)
http://www.skytronic.com/uk/prod/search.php?s=154.053

I know I would need the coloured filters/gel packs as well. Any additional
leads I might require?

Thanks again,

Tony.

Contact Jon Collins at Stage Services, http://www.stage-services.co.uk/ they
are a great company. I have no connection with them at all, apart from
being a very satisfied client.
