Hi everyone!

Just sticking my head round the door to see if you fine people can recommend
a decent - or failing that, cheap - luthier. Ive got a fairly odd solid
electric body idea that I fancy having built, so I dont think an off-the
peg solution is going to cut it.

This is what Im after - so please try to restrain the giggles. Ive always
fancied the Jaguar body shape. Lying around in a crate here, I have two
quite tasty humbuckers off an old Ibanez that Ive been dying to use for
ages, an old Strat neck, and a quite nice Wilkinson trem system.

So Im looking for a Jaguar-shaped body, built so it will accomodate two
humbuckers, the Wilkinson, and a neck with a Strat scale length. I ideally
wanted it constructed out of some dark wood like a nice bit of walnut, but
if itll keep costs down, Ill take any lighter wood that the maker has to
hand (within reason) and stain it myself. Oh, and I want the control
cavities back-routed so theres no need for a scratchplate on the front.
Ill handle all the finishing, assembly, body cavity insulation, wiring and
so on.

Im also thinking that the body may have to be truncated a little from the
normal Jaguar length, in order to visually offset the fact that Im using a
shorter neck, and that there wont be any of the behind-the-bridge trem
shenanigans that occur on a regular Jag. Im willing to take the builders
advice on that one.

So there you have it. Sounds silly, I know, but Im sure you can appreciate
what its like when such ideas take hold of you! Ive had a scout around on
the net, but all I seem to turn up is either standard Strat/Tele type body
blanks, or raw chunks of wood (which, when combined with a router, and these
hands, would equal one expensive pile of sawdust).

Does anyone have any names of people who may be able to take on such a job?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Dan.

Dan,

You could do a great deal worse than contact Paul Creedy at Arrowhead
Guitars. http://www.arrowheadguitars.co.uk/

He is known to many of us, has worked for several, and (AFAIK) had
complaints from none.

Cheers
Julian

Dunno about prices - and I suggest, in any event, that price should be
your second consideration - but from what I observed at the National,
you could do worse than talk to Paul Creedy.
