Can anybody help? Im looking for a slot-in gold replacement for the trem
bridge on my US Strat. Have tried a Wilkinson, and the body seems to
restrict the forward travel of the unit. Does anybody have any other useful
ideas?

In a similar vein, I am currently mulling over a Hipshot system - does
anyone have any experience with these?

TIA,

Chris

I fitted a hipshot tremsetter in my US std (89) strat approx 10 years ago
and have been very satisfied with it over the years. Setting it up however
does take some time and patience, if you get it wrong you probably wont get
on with it. If you follow the manual closely it should work out ok. I also
installed a wilkinson roller nut and schaller locking tuners for greater
tuning stability (like strat plus). So now ive got a strat minus (minus
lace sensors that is ;-) ). Left the strat bridge standard, so cant help
you there.

Cheers,

Bas

Get this!

I emailed Fender Europe and asked if they could get hold of the gold trem
assemblies. They told me to go to the nearest dealer and slap down my
deposit on the counter... So I talked to Fender GB to see if they had any
and how much it was gonna sting me for...

Ł200! And thats with the current exchange rate? When the thing only costs
$150 in the US! Somebody obviously still thinks its Christmas!

Check the string spacing, though.

Thats a 6 point vintage bridge. US Strats have used 2 point trems for
some time. I assumed, if hes talking of trying a Wilkinson, it was a VS100
and thats a 2 point trem. WD Music do a similar Gotoh GE101 6 point
vintage in gold for 40 pounds. The StewMac one will cost you over 50
pounds by the time you add import duty, postage and VAT. If you want
real cheap, Brandoni have a no name vintage in gold for 25 quid.
Allparts are also worth checking. They have a vintage gold for 50
quid or 75 quid for a Gotoh 2 point gold. Contact Pincotts for Allparts
stuff in the UK. See the FAQ for phone numbers.

One thing about allparts, look out, they charged me more than my invoice,
when I was buying some small parts for a strat off them!

Thats a surprise. Ive never had anything other than 1st class
service from Pincotts, including full refunds for parts that didnt
fit because of my fault.
