Having sold my Fender VI reissue I am on an acoustic binge.

While I am waiting for my new Martin 00016RGT to arrive from the USA (gotta
love that dollar) I saw a Norman B20-12 12 string on eBay for Ł190 today.
Bought it and collected it within the hour.

However - shame on me - I only noticed a split in the top when I got it
home. It is along the grain and about 3 inches long. It is not too obvious
because of the grain, but it is a split.

Im not worried about the cosmetic impact of the split. Should I leave it
alone? Is it likely to be an expensive repair? Is there anything I can do
to arrest it? Its a very nice guitar. Ive been thinking about a few
spots of superglue to try to convince it to stay put.

Advice cheerfully received. (apart from look at the bloody thing when you
buy a guitar)

I dont know the best method of repair but I would definitely advise against
the use of Super glue.
Im sure there will be many responses from the knowledgeable folk in this
NG.

if its not too wide a split it might be possible to glue and clamp it shut,
failing that it would need a small splint inserting - best done by someone
who knows what they are doing

A friend once dropped an acoustic of mine, resulting in a split in the top.
While it wasnt that valuable a guitar, I still wanted it repaired. I ended
up taking it to Dick Knight in Woking. The repair was more or less
invisible.

Unfortunately Dick is no longer with us, but I believe his son, Malcolm, has
taken over where he left off. Sorry, but I dont have any contact details,
but hopefully someone here will...

Sorry for long delay - I wanted to wait until it arrived before I said
anything.

It came from http://www.myfavoriteguitars.com/

FYI my 00016RGT arrived after eight days using the very reasonable USPS
service.

Excellent very prompt service, very well packed and just beautiful.

Cheers
Ashley
