For those of us whose age consists of two digits and starts with a number
which is at least 3, Top of the Pops is about as confusing as this opening
sentance.

Can someone who is down with the kids kindly explain to me what the
facination is with grabbing ones own crotch on stage?

I know that Michael Jackson used to do this to some extent, but the guy who
was at number 1 on tonights show (whose name thankfully escapes me) seemed
to be not far short of having a sly one off the wrist.

I caught the show a couple of weeks ago, and M&M (see, Im not THAT old)
spent the entire performance either pointing at the audience, pointing at a
band mate or grabbing his bits.

Can someone tell me what its all about? Should I incorporate it next time
I take to the stage? How does one strum and perform said act without
breaking either essential rhythm? I suppose I could pop my plectrum holder
to my parts rather than on the mic stand and Id have a cast iron reason for
this rather anti-social behavior. If I needed to fire myself up, just fling
a plectrum to the floor and reflex action to carry on the performance works
wonders. You know youre onto a good thing when you feel you can safely
perform without straplocks as, should the worst happen, your guitar will be
caught due to your handiwork.

Im going to bed now. If I start rapping at the top of my voice, someone
else might grab my crotch. Alas, not in a good way.

By the way, I couldnt really make out the words. And there wasnt a tune
in sight.

Gary

Its just kids tv now, unlike when we were kids and they actually played
music ;-)...

Im very annoyed that they refused to play the new Marillion single (no. 7
in the charts!) cos they dont fit with what the marketing people say they
should be playing - I assume.

We really are lacking decent music programs on the tv at the moment - as in
something that has musicians performing and inspires young people to
actually do something that will require them to put time and effort into
perfecting their art.

I have heard that TOTP is struggling to get the viewing figures and the
budget has just been significantly cut, but I dont think its relevance is
about to change when mobile ringtones apparently have higher sales figures
than most of the top 40.

By my reckoning, its some sort of breathing aid. Squeezing ones bits whilst
singing may have a bellows effect on the lungs, pumping them up further
than natural - hence helping to shout Yueah!
louder......

But I agree, the lot of them should be made to work in some aweful holiday
camp doing childrens shows until they learn not to be so annoying in the
future.

Thats because the bulk of music CDs sold these days are produced by spotty
nerds with powerful computers and sequencers who are fronted up by pretty
kids who can dance.

Everyone is making loads of cash and nobody has to learn how to play one of
those horribly complicated and expensive musical instruments.

Theres an interesting magazine called Sound on Sound that unconsciously
strips the whole process bare most months. Talent or skill is never
mentioned, just the newest technical toys to get the latest sound.

Posh Spice has claimed she had an affair with Michael Jackson, Jackson has
denied it claiming he was in Brooklyn at the time
