Last night when I got to my gig, I opened my gigbag to find that my old
Boss ME6 effects pedal wasnt there. (Found it at 1:00am under the
dining table). Not a problem, I have plan B - an old Zoom 505 in a side
pocket of the bag, so I plugged in and got a horrible hissy crackly mess
- so the Zoom wasnt any good. Plan C? Just me, my guitar, (A Cort
koreacaster with Mighty Mite pickups) into my amp (Laney VC30 bought
with advice from this group). And it wasnt too shabby a sound, either
(cant comment on the playing, of course!)
But there are some FX Id like to have. Obviously, I dont need amp
modelling - Laney VC30, remember! - but need the usual things, chorus,
delay, compressor, Id like a decent rotary sound and also
tremelo/vibrato - you know, wobbly wobbly. I play blues - mainly, but
not only, rhythm - in fact more lead as gigs progress. I also play slide
on about 3 or 4 numbers, depending on the set list.

I never managed to get into programming patches on my Boss ME6, or even
use them (found switching too complicated), rather I use it in manula
mode and switch effects on and off as required. Im prepared, though, to
embrace the digital age, provided my brain wont hurt too much, and
consider a pedal with easily selectable and easily modified patches, or
good patches that i dont need to change. Ideas, please.
cheers
Gary

Or even a G7.1ut!

If perchance you already had an expression/volume pedal with your 505 and
cost is a factor, the G2 would do much the same for less money, and you can
use the old expression pedal with the G2.

I upgraded from a 505 to a G2 and am well happy. Comes with a drum machine
too.

I can recommend the Boss ME-50. Ive had mine for a few weeks now and cant
fault it for what I need it for. I play metal mainly but jam with blues,
jazz and rock musicians too and have found manual mode suffices for the
subset of effects I need for each genre.

Im not a big fan of modelling which was one of the reasons I decided to try
the Boss in the first place. The ME-50 doesnt try to be anything other a
few effects in a single box and does it very well.

Its the first multi-effects unit Ive owned that I feel comfortable playing
at jams. Ill have to wait a few more weeks to find out how it works out
for a gig.

A side note: I use a Boss MT-2 for my metal distortion but find it a little
too tweakable and a bit of a hassle at times. As youd expect the MT-2
setting on the ME-50 isnt as tweakable which is actually a plus in this
case.
