Hi
I have a 87 SG2000s and it is a beautiful (if rather heavy) guitar
with fantastic workmanship.
I have though, always wanted a Gibson ES 3355 but am seriously
impressed with Yamahas SA2200 version (~Ł900 discount as opposed to
Ł1500-ish for the Gibo). BUT after reading all the user review posts
on Harmony Central where users claim the SA2200 is BETTER and knowing
from my ownership of the aforesaid SG this could be likely, and being
told by Mick Taylor of Guitarist that the Gibsons suffer from build
quality issues, I am thinking the Yamaha route is much more
sensible....?
However I am now thing that *even more sensible* maybe the cheaper
Yamaha SA500 with a pair of original Gibson pickups swapped in!
Currently I can pick up a SA500 in sunburst for Ł199 and then have
buckets of dosh left for a choice of classic Gibson 57 humbuckers
slotted in. This will give that impressive Gibo tone But should have
he added advantage of Yamahas superior build quality and finish. And
I will have best part of a Ł1000 in my pocket still !!
Wadya think??
